Welcome Back Rams!
Dear Students:
Welcome—or welcome back—to campus. I hope you had a wonderful summer and return to
campus invigorated and ready for a great year. I had the privilege of meeting many
of you last year, my first year as president here at 51³Ô¹Ï, and
many at our recent campus events, orientation programs, and/or residence hall
move-ins. I'm certainly looking forward to meeting more of you during the coming academic
year (perhaps at "Pizza with the Prez").
As you return to campus, it’s hard to miss all the ongoing construction, an exciting
sign of progress at FSC. Of special note, this fall we will begin construction on
our new Computer Sciences Center, which will support our increasing enrollment and
growing opportunities in important disciplines like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
As you know, Farmingdale is rare among colleges in requiring an applied learning experience.
Getting involved in research and discovery sets you on a good path for future opportunities.
I urge you to take full advantage of the many options available to FSC students through
the Nexus Center, our Research Aligned Mentoring (RAM) program, your individual schools
and departments, and our academic success programs. Applied learning (or experiential
education) has proven to be among the most significant learning experiences for college
students. While our faculty and staff are here for you, it is up to you to take advantage
of all that we offer at FSC. Make it a habit to see your academic advisors and mentors
for insight into your disciplinary and career paths. If you have questions, please
ask. Join a club. Join a society. Pursue research. Play on an intramural team. Few
colleges our size have the depth of student support that we do, and I urge you to
take advantage of the services and opportunities created for you. The Office of Student
Activities has a full schedule of activities to kick off the new academic year and
I look forward to seeing you at many of these.
It’s always uplifting to see our campus come to life with the start of the fall semester. Again, welcome. I wish you the very best for
the upcoming year. If you see me out and about on campus, please stop to say hello,
introduce yourself, and share your best ideas for our collective future. Your views,
input, and ideas matter.
Go Rams!
