Academic Warning / Early Warning / Probation

Academic Warning

Academic Warning is ONLY FOR FIRST-TIME, FULL-TIME FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS (no college courses taken or completed) with a first-semester Grade Point Average (GPA) below 2.0. These students are permitted to continue their studies at Farmingdale, but must meet with an Academic Advisor or Faculty Advisor (depending on your major) to set-up an Action Plan for success. They are subject to a hold that prevents them from registering for the following semester until they complete the items on their Action Plan. Once these items are completed, the hold will be lifted.

The Action Plan is an individualized success plan to help students succeed in their next semester at 51勛圖. It may include tutoring, academic workshops, developing new skills, etc.

Failure achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA by the end of the semester will result in Academic Probation (see below).

Students in the RAM program or the EOP program will be seen by their advisor within those respective programs, and not an AAIC advisor. Students in the following majors must also to meet with their department instead of the AAIC: Criminal Justice, Dental, Horticulture, Heatlh Promotion, Interaction Design, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Nutrition, & Visual Communications. Please schedule with your program or major, rather than below.

Early Warning

Students receive this warning around the 6th or 7th week of the semester if their academic performance in a course is less than a C. The early warning allows the student sufficient time to meet with their instructors and/or an Academic Advisor to develop a course of action aimed at improving their grade(s). Students will learn about the variety of support systems that are available to assist them to improve their performance that semester. An Early Warning is not permanently recorded on the transcript, but merely an invitation for students to act to improve or consider withdrawing from a course.

If you received an Early Warning notification:

 - and are in a department advised by the AAIC, please sign up for an appointment (you can choose 'Early Warning' or sign up for a regular advisement appointment and then discuss Early Warning with your AAIC advisor as well);

OR

- if you are not in a department advised by the AAIC, please click on the button below to schedule an appointment.

Academic Probation

Students who fail to obtain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 in any particular semester will automatically be placed on academic probation (except first-time, full-time first-year students who go on Academic Warning see above). This is a formal warning that their good academic standing is in jeopardy.

The purpose of academic probation is to alert the student and the institution to problems associated with the students academic performance and to recommend or implement strategies for improvement. Students are permitted to continue their studies at Farmingdale, but are expected to meet with Academic Advisors or Faculty Advisors to seek tutoring and further assistance. Two consecutive semesters with a GPA below a 2.0 can result in Suspension.
