2025 Day of Service: Engaged For A Sustainable Future

On April 22, 2025—Earth Day—the Office of Community and Civic Engagement (OCCE), in partnership with the Food Pantry and the Office of Sustainability, will host the 3rd annual Day of Service. April is National Volunteer Month and this year OCCE is building on the , this year’s event highlights SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By bringing together campus and community partners, we aim to address food insecurity, promote sustainable practices, and foster meaningful collaborations that create lasting, positive change.

By uniting for Earth Day and National Volunteer Month, this Day of Service underscores the transformative power of civic engagement, community partnerships, and innovative change in shaping a more sustainable future. Through volunteerism, collaborative problem-solving, and responsible resource management, 51³Ô¹Ï continues its commitment to addressing hunger, nurturing sustainable practices, and building stronger, more resilient communities on Long Island.

The active participation of community partners exemplifies the powerful role of multi-stakeholder alliances.

Community Service Awards Ceremony
Celebrating faculty, staff, students, and organizations for their exceptional dedication to community service and on-campus leadership. This ceremony honors those who demonstrate exceptional community service, engaged scholarly works, and or actively work to promote a culture of civic engagement across 51³Ô¹Ï and beyond.

Keynote Speaker: Randi Shubin Dresner, CEO of Island Harvest
Explore the pressing challenges of food insecurity with insights from a respected leader in hunger relief. Randi Shubin Dresner will discuss effective strategies for combating hunger, emphasizing the power of innovation, sustainable solutions, and community-based partnerships in alleviating food insecurity.

* Breakfast and light lunch will be served.

11:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Packing Food & Toiletry Kits
In a hands-on display of community engagement, volunteers from FSC and beyond will collaborate with AHRC to assemble food and toiletry kits. These kits will be donated to students, local families, and a variety of organizations across Long Island. This collective effort underscores the immediate impact of coordinated volunteer action in addressing critical needs.
