Women in Science with Dr. Jennifer Cano
Women in Science Guest Speaker
Dr. Jennifer Cano from Physics Department at Stony Brook University will introduce her personal story, unique experience and outstanding achievements, which will inspire students' interests in STEM fields.
Biography
Jennifer Cano joined the faculty at Stony Brook in 2018. Prior to that, she was a
Postdoctoral Fellow at the Princeton Center for Theoretical Science from 2015-2018.
She received her PhD in 2015 from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jennifer
received an NSF Career award in 2019 and a Sloan Fellowship in 2022.
Research Statement
Jennifer Cano's research group focuses on the classification, prediction, and discovery
of topological phases of matter. This can range from strongly correlated phases, such as the quantum Hall effect, to
uncorrelated topological band structures. She is interested in classification, measurement,
and materials discovery. Her research is funded by an NSF Early Career Award, the
Columbia NSF MRSEC, the AFOSR, the Simons Foundation, and a Sloan Fellowship.
