Shan Siddiqui

Shan Siddiqui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at 51³Ô¹Ï. His academic interests lie at the intersection of race and ethnicity, immigration, health, and social inequality. Specifically, his research investigates how stressors in the social environment, such as racism and immigration enforcement, become "embodied" and impact the health of communities of color in the U.S., with a focus on Asian Americans. Siddiqui's work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Refugee & Global Health, Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, Asian American Journal of PsychologyFrontiers in Public Health, Injury Prevention, and Journal of Asian Health.


In the classroom, Siddiqui uses a variety of high-impact teaching practices that promote collaboration, active engagement, and experiential learning, which allows his students to develop the skills to advocate for social change and promote health equity. Prior to joining academia, Siddiqui was an occupational therapist and worked in multiple clinical settings, including adult psychiatry, outpatient pediatrics, and acute care rehabilitation.
