Architecture & Construction
Amitabha Bandyopadhyay
Dr. Amit Bandyopadhyay, PE, Fellow, ASCE, ENV.SP is a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor since 2004. His main research area is construction management within civil engineering. He has served as ABET ETAC commissioner and chair of the commission. He also served as commissioner for ABET ANSAC and a peer reviewer for Middle State Commission for Higher Education. He has published over thirty technical articles in peer reviewed environments. He served on a number of research panel of National Academies. He served as the department chair for twenty four years and the graduate coordinator for three years. He served as reviewer for NSF and USDE for several times.
He has numerous publications in construction productivity, Bayesian approach in construction technology, construction site engineering, and sustainable construction practices. His research in the development of inference structures with incomplete or unavailable data and his work on use of water jet in construction has attracted national and international attention. A start up Construction Company in New York City applied Dr. Bandyopadhyay’s study as their basis for a business plan in water jet application. Dr. Bandyopadhyay is also engaged in research on interconnected learning. Working with faculty members in other disciplines, he made several changes in the curriculum to assure students an integrated education. He was part of the National Science Foundations multi million dollar project for this area of Long Island. Dr. Bandyopadhyay’s research helped World Trade Center recovery efforts. His current research interest includes sustainable construction.
A Professional Engineer licensed in the states of New York and New Jersey. .
Prior to joining academia, Dr. Bandyopadhyay worked for United Engineers and Constructors as a lead engineer engaged in design and construction of nuclear structures. Previously Dr. Bandyopadhyay worked for M.N. Dastur, an international consulting firm. There he designed chemical and steel plants. Dr. Bandyopadhyay is a fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers and the past Division Chair of the Construction Engineering division of American Society for Engineering Education.
