Funding & Eligibility Information
What is the award cap?
The current cap is set at $2,450, but those with higher APCs or publication fees are encourgaed to apply as funding will be considered on a case-by-case basis as available.
What is the application cap?
Applicants will be limited to one award per academic year.
Who is eligible for the fund?
Any current FSC faculty or staff member who is the first-named and/or corresponding author.
What publications/fees are eligible for funding?
At this time, only fees associated with the publication of peer-reviewed journal articles which have not been previously published will be considered. This includes publication fees such as color charges or additional page charges associated with traditional, subscription-based peer-reviewed journals as well as article processing charges associated with open-access, peer-reviewed journals. This fund excludes book reviews, commentary, and other non-peer-reviewed materials.
How will the funds be disbursed?
First preference will be given to applicants with accepted manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals that meet the review committees evaluation criteria (see above). Funds will be disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis until the fund is exhausted for the academic year.
If accepted manuscripts receive first preference, why are you accepting applications from candidates who are awaiting a response or who have not yet submitted?
Reviewing your application while you are awaiting a response may allow us to expedite a recommendation for funding IF the journal to which you are planning to submit meets the review criteria and IF funding remains available at the time of acceptance.
It is also important to remember that predatory journals are becoming increasingly sophisticated and, as a result, more difficult to avoid. If you are considering submitting to a journal with which you are not familar, please reach out to the review chair, Danielle Apfelbaum, Scholarly Communication Librarian, for assistance with evaluating your publication prior to submission.
