Lasting Leadership
FSC Associate Provost Chris Malone Selected for Competitive AASCU Academy
51Թ (FSC) Associate Provost Christopher Malone, PhD, was recently selected to participate in the nationally recognized American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ (AASCU) . This highly selective leadership program is tailored to the distinctive needs of aspiring chief academic officers. Offered in partnership with the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI), this yearlong program provides comprehensive preparation in the areas of most critical concern to provosts.
Malone is one of only 30 talented higher education leaders to participate in the 2025 BAPA, which kicked off its programming during the AASCU Summer Meeting for Academic and Student Affairs Leaders this week in Indianapolis, Indiana.
BAPA is carefully designed for experienced deans, assistant or associate provosts, and other academic administrators who aspire to become provosts to understand the expectations of the role and the skills needed to be effective, particularly in today’s complex environment. There is also a strong relational component that enables cohort members to network with each other and engage in peer-to-peer learning. Since 2016, 135 BAPA participants have been elevated to provost positions at AASCU member institutions, and 36 have gone on to become presidents or chancellors.
“In his four years at 51Թ, Dr. Malone has made important contributions to academic programming, student support, and faculty scholarship,” said FSC President Robert S. Prezant, PhD. “His selection to this academy and his participation in the program is an investment not only in Dr. Malone’s future, but as a lasting benefit to the students he serves here at FSC.”
"The American Academy Leadership Institute provided us an enormous opportunity to meet colleagues from across the country and begin this year-long journey together to understand the challenges higher education faces, how we can better meet them as leaders on our own campuses in the short term, and how we might further our careers for the betterment of the industry,” said Malone. “I am grateful to AALI and AASCU for hosting the Becoming a Provost Academy and to FSC President Prezant for nominating me for this highly competitive opportunity."
“It is inspiring to see so many strong academic leaders aspiring to take on one of the most important campus leadership positions,” said Terry Brown, AASCU’s vice president of academic innovation and transformation.
“We look forward to working with these committed and enthusiastic leaders as they take the next steps in their careers,” said Javier Cevallos, AALI president.
