UHS Instructor Credentials by Discipline

All partner high schools have signed Partnership Agreements with Farmingdale State College, outlining the terms of agreement, responsibilities of stakeholders, courses offered, and program fees. To establish a partnership or expand a partnership the following steps must occur: 

• The high school primary contact must submit a Request to Partner with Farmingdale for UHS , specifying which course(s) the high school seeks to offer through UHS, along with resumes of the instructor(s) who will teach the course(s). The deadline to submit for courses that will run 2026-27 is November 14, 2025. Resumes must show that the instructors meet the minimum qualifications, which are consistent with on-campus adjunct faculty. See below for a list of the required minimum credentials by department.
  • NOTE: Applications for the 2025-26 academic year are no longer being accepted at this time. 
• In accordance with SUNY policy, FSC must coordinate with the appropriate area community college with regard to course offerings.
• Once FSC receives a response from the area community college, the high school will be notified about course/instructor approvals.
• All instructors must be onboarded by attending course-specific training with FSC faculty, and administrative orientation with UHS staff.
• The UHS Office will send Partnership Agreement(s) to the high school for signatures, inclusive of the new courses.

Biology	Arts & Sciences	A Master’s degree in Biology or a Master’s degree in a closely related science field
Business Management: Accounting, Law, Marketing, Management	Business	Relevant Master’s degree and recent substantial professional experience in the area being taught
Computer Security	Engineering	A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security or closely related field
Computer Systems	Engineering	Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a Science or Bachelor’s in other areas with relevant coursework or certifications. Master’s degree in a technical field or in Education.
Computer Systems - CISCO	Business	Master’s degree preferred in closely related field, and current CCNA certifications
Criminal Justice	Arts & Sciences	A minimum of a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field, and career experience in the criminal justice arena
Economics	Business	Master’s degree in Economics  or Master’s degree in Business and significant graduate level economics coursework completed,  or related Master’s degree and significant graduate level economics coursework completed, and be NY State Certified to teach Business or Social Studies, bachelor degree in Economics or related field
Electrical Engineering Technology	Engineering	A Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or in a closely related field
Health Promotion and Wellness	Health Sciences	Closely related graduate degree, with teaching experience and/or work experience in a health care setting or volunteer agency. A transcript showing appropriate related course work may also be required.
History & Politics	Arts & Sciences	Master’s degree in course area, i.e. History for history courses or Politics for politics courses Master’s degree in Education + NY State Certified to teach the subject area Closely related Master’s degree + experience in teaching the subject
Human Communications	Arts & Sciences	Master of Arts in Communication, Media, or English preferred. A Master of Arts in a Social Science, Humanities or Business subject, or a Master’s degree in Education with a related focus (i.e., MEd in English Education), are also may be considered.
Geographic Information Systems & Geography	Arts & Sciences	Relevant Master’s degree + experience in teaching the subject
Mathematics	Arts & Sciences	Teacher must hold a master's degree in the area of Mathematical Sciences (mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics) or a master's degree in Education. At least one of the bachelor's or the master's degrees must be in Mathematical Sciences.
Mechanical Engineering Technology	Engineering	Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Nutrition Science	Health Sciences	Closely related graduate degree, with teaching experience and/or work experience in a health care setting or volunteer agency. A transcript showing appropriate related course work may also be required.
Psychology	Arts & Sciences	Master’s degree in Psychology or a closely related field (Social work, mental health counseling, etc.) accompanied by 3 or more years of teaching or other professional psychology practice.
Sociology & Anthropology	Arts & Sciences	Related Master's degree and at least an undergraduate anthropology or sociology minor (or the equivalent # of credits)
Sport Management	Business	Master’s degree, with a related degree and/or related experience
Visual Communications	Business	Master of Fine Arts or Master’s degree in a related art field and related experience
