Medical Laboratory Science Program- Fall Only Admission

Deadline to apply:  March 15th

Current Farmingdale students seeking a curriculum change to Medical Laboratory Science should note the following:

1.      A curriculum change application must be filled out completely and submitted to the MLS department by the above-mentioned deadline.

2.      Students applying to the program should have a strong academic record.  The MLS program is an academically challenging program with competitive admissions.  Curriculum change decisions are based on students’ academic records and available seating.  Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program.

3.      The eligibility requirements for the MLS program include:

  1. Overall 3.0 GPA
  2. BIO 130, or equivalent, B or better
  3. CHM 152, or equivalent, B or better
  4. Preferred completion of BIO 130 and CHM 152 within 5 years, B or better on first attempt.
  5. College level math, B or better
  6.  All other science and math grades on the transcript should be B or better for the best chance of acceptance.
  7. Preferred prior full-time study in a science/math related major to show demonstrated success in a rigorous course of study.
  8. Transfer credit for all science courses--10 year maximum.

4.     Applicants who already have a BS degree in natural sciences or an MLT-level associates degree should anticipate           approximately 2 ½ - 3 years to complete the program.

5.      The MLS program offers Fall admission ONLY and requires in-person class attendance.

6.      Students will be notified whether the curriculum change request has been granted after spring semester grades have been reviewed.

7.      Students must meet with their current academic advisor in the Spring semester to register for Fall classes while awaiting curriculum change notification.  Students accepted to the program will be contacted for advisement by the MLS department and appropriate changes to the fall schedule will be made.
