Student Tutoring & Coaching Agreement
Welcome! The Center for Academic Success & Tutoring (CAST) at 51³Ô¹Ï (FSC) is pleased to provide you with tutoring and academic coaching to support you in your studies. Our services are available at no charge to all FSC students for courses in which they are currently enrolled.
To make the most out of our services, carefully read the general guidelines and student expectations listed below. By using our services, you are acknowledging that you have read and understand this document.
-
Tutors and coaches are not teachers, subject matter experts, or replacements for regularly attending class or instructor office hours. Additionally, tutors may have taken the course with a different instructor or learned the material in a different way, which may impact their ability to assist you. Students must consult their course instructor if they are uncertain about specific course requirements or expectations.
-
Tutors and coaches are NOT permitted to directly provide answers to assignments and take-home tests, unless written consent has been received from the course instructor. Tutors and coaches reserve the right to refuse service if they believe that the student is engaging in academic dishonesty according to the FSC Academic Integrity Policy.
- Tutoring and coaching sessions may be monitored and observed by CAST professional staff for training and evaluation purposes.
-
Arrive on time: attend your appointment at the scheduled start time. Notify the Center’s staff within the allotted timeframe if you are running late, need to cancel, or require rescheduling. View the CAST Appointment Policy for more details. CAST staff reserve the right to place restrictions on scheduling future appointments for students who repeatedly violate the Appointment Policy.
-
Come prepared: make sure you have identified specific questions or concepts in which further clarification is needed. Review your notes or complete practice problems on your own before your session. Bring your notes, textbooks, and any other relevant materials or supplies. CAST staff reserve the right to end a session early if the student is not adequately prepared.
-
Be engaged: actively participate in the session and avoid using your cell phone. Share your thought process with your tutor or coach so they can understand your learning preferences. Do not book an appointment while you are scheduled to be in class, and do not attend a remote session while you are in a distracting environment. CAST staff reserve the right to end a session early if the student is not actively participating or the environment is not conducive to tutoring or coaching.
-
Exhibit appropriate behavior: treat the CAST staff and your fellow FSC community members with respect. Follow the FSC Student Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures. If you fail to exhibit appropriate behavior during your session, your appointment may be ended early, and you may be asked to leave the Center. In extreme cases, students who violate a CAST or FSC policy may be referred to the Office of the Dean of Students for disciplinary action and may lose their tutoring or coaching privileges.
Ultimately, our office’s primary goal is to help you develop the skills to become a more self-sufficient and independent learner. Remember, you are solely responsible for your own learning and academic performance. We are here to help you succeed in achieving that goal!
If you have any questions or concerns about this document, please ask a member of the CAST professional staff for clarification. We look forward to working with and supporting you during your journey at FSC!
